ON BEING A MUSIC BLOG WRITER

Being a music blog writer (The Music Muse Interview) requires research.  Along the way, your research and the contacts you make, leads you to many interesting facts.  Often these facts are little-noted in the wider world of radio listening.  That's what I wish to share with you today, as I write for RockandRollHeaven.net readers and JST KLSX listeners.

    LITTLE-KNOWN OR FORGOTTEN TIDBITS

Did you know, a little-known band in America, then hot in the UK, called The Beatles, once served as Tommy Roe's opening act, on one of Tommy Roe's UK tours?  When those red-hot members of the Fab Four took America by storm, at their request, Tommy Roe opened for The Beatles.  I believe this was their 1964 show in Washington D.C.

Proof positive, The Beatles did not forget those who helped them, along the way.  Also, proof positive, what a kind and humble fellow, Tommy Roe is.  Fifty years later, in 2014, Tommy Roe may be in Liverpool again, the original home of The Beatles!  It's not a done deal.  So, keep your fingers crossed, for Tommy Roe, to relive a little of those glory days.

Did you know, the first Black female singing artist, to appear on the Grand Ole Opry, was Leesville, South Carolina native, Linda Martell in 1969?  Linda Martell's biggest Country Music hit, is better known to Rock fans, as The Winstons lone big hit.  The song, Color Him Father

This song also made Linda Martell the first Black Female Country Music artist to chart on the Country chart.  Sadly, despite being an excellent singer, Linda Martell only had two more Country Music songs to chart.  In addition to her 12 appearances on the Grand Ole Opry, Linda Martell also appeared on Hee Haw and The Bill Anderson Show.

Did you know...well, you probably can't know this tidbit.  John Wesley Ryles, mentioned in my previous post, is married to Joni Twitty, daughter of the late Conway Twitty.  That's what I call, "Keeping it Country!"
